APPLES as Brain Food

The age-old wisdom of eating and apple a day to keep the doctor away just got juicier. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging reports that apple juice and apple products may reduce the effects of age-related brain disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. This new research uncovered that apple juice and apple products may have nutritional properties that promote memory and learning and maintain brain health. Both normal and genetically inferior mice at risk for diseases like Alzheimer's were examined after a month-long diet of apple juice; the genetically deficient mice performed poorly without apple juice, but with apple juice, they performed as well as the normal mice. The study also claims that drinking apple juice counteracted the negative effects of a poor diet.
